Liliput was founded by Walter Burcheri in 1947 to produce toys, the first H0 model railwayss appearing in 1950. The company was successful, producing ranges in H0 two rail DC as well as Marklin compatible three rail AC. Narrow gauge H0e (British 009) models were also released, together with US outline H0 models, for US importer AHM. Part of the US contract was in conjunction with Roco. Liliput also worked closely with Buco, in connection with the Buco H0 range. Liliput models were imported to the UK by Ernst Rozsa, with Liliput also producing 4mm scale models for the British Trix range.
Liliput as a company failed in 1988 and was purchased by Herpa, with production continuing. Four years later, Liliput was purchased from Herpa by Bachmann, who were owned by Hong Kong firm Kader, who relocated production to the Far East.
