The US outline models were manufactured in Elizabeth NJ, and first announced in August 1927. The following year, Meccano Inc was taken over by A C Gilbert of Erector and American Flyer fame, the last advertisements for US Hornby trains being 1929, with remaining stocks of US manufactured models being sold in Canada during 1930.
Production of the US models was transferred to Liverpool UK in 1930, production ceasing due to World War II. US manufactured models are marked Hornby Lines and fitted with tab and slot couplers whereas UK produced models are marked Hornby Series, with automatic couplings.
