The Train Sets were issued with a complete wiring loom and instructions showing exactly how the rails should be configured, where each component should be placed and the direction in which the train should run to ensure operation of the accessories. Each set included one locomotive, two passenger cars and two freight cars, in addition to the track, buildings, accessories, instructions and controller/transformer.
When configured in accordance with the diagram, the set worked thus :
The train starts at the station. The station master waves his arm. The train starts and, as the train passes, the first signal changes from green to red. The second signal changes from amber to green and the third signal changes from red to amber. The station illumination dims.
The train passes over the bridge, across the first switch (turnout), with signals changing through green, amber, red as the train progresses.
The train comes around the curve, across the second switch (turnout) and across the level (grade) crossing, the barriers lowering as the train passes.
The train passes the watchman, who pops out of his hut and waves his illuminated (from below) lamp.
The illumination of the station changes from dim to bright.
The train arrives at the station, ready to repeat the cycle.
At some point, the horn in the station sounds. When the train departs?
