One of the many Marx Toys - Have you all of them? The Marx company was established in New York in 1919, initially as a distributor, subsequently as a manufacturer with plants in Erie PA (general toys), Girard PA (toy trains) and Glen Dale WV (toy vehicles), as well as plants overseas including Dudley, England (pre war) and Swansea, Wales (post war). Louis Marx sold his Marx company to Quaker Oats in 1972, but Quaker Oats struggled, selling Marx to the British Dunbee-Combex-Marx conglomeate in 1976. Dunbee-Combex-Marx had purchased British Marx in 1967, and Hornby in 1972, but , unable to run a profitable business, entering receivership in 1980. US Marx, British Marx and Hornby were therefore all part of the same group, 1976-1980.
