Adrian Swain was a model and kit builder and manufacturer in 4mm and 7mm scales, his skills being applied to railways, narrow gauge railways and road models, particularly buses. He first became known due to articles published in the model railway press mid 1960s and was in business by 1970. Adrian Swain passed away 29th May 2020, following a long battle with cancer.
It is believed that Adrian Swain was commissioned by Kay Butler of Wrightlines, to design their 7mm narrow gauge Simplex locomotive. Wrightlines was originally Russell Wright, who sold the business to Kay Butler. The same Simplex kit was marketed by Adrian through his Zero Zephyrs ABS Models firm, as 0 gauge. The castings were the same, and one set of instructions covered both the narrow and standard gauge models, both designed to suit a motor bogie by Tenshodo.
