Péter Tordai was a Hungarian entrepreneur who build perhaps 20 to 25 perfect repica Marklin locomotives, including the well known Hudson, of which Marklin themselves only produced fifty. It is alleged that the plan was to sell the replicas as restored originals. The first Hudson sale was greeted with huge enthusiam, the second with scepticism and the third became a scandal. Mr Tordai only ever produced five Hudson locos, and four tenders, the manufacturing of which was completed within his own factory, with assembly by outside home workers.
Other Marklin replicas known to have been produced include four or five each of Commodore Vanderbilt, Cock of The North and Crocodile.
