Mike Reagan, until 2016 Director of Project Management & Customer Service at Lionel LLC, set up Train America Studios (TAS) in 1998 to provide Lionel TMCC compatible products for non Lionel locomotives. In May 2008, TAS was purchased by Lionel, and Mike Reagan joined Lionel staff, resigning from Lionel November 2016.
TAS produced smoke units for both steam and diesel locomotives, that for steam working in 'chuff' mode to synchronise puffs with wheel revolutions and that for diesels increasing the fan speed in line with locomotive speed.
