Colonel R J 'Ronnie' Hoare, an amateur motor racing enthusiast before and after WWII, was a Ford main dealer, and is perhaps best known for his Maranello Concessionaires business in Bournemouth, importing and racing Ferrari motor cars, one of his drivers at that time being Graham Hill, father of Damon.
Col. Ronnie Hoare was also a model railway enthusiast, inspired by Stanley Norris, who built, or had built for him, a large 0 gauge layout on the site of his Ford dealership, F English of Bournemouth. The layout, Bromford and High Peak, subsequently moved to a factory unit. Built to then 7mm finescale standards, the layout was featured by Railway Modeller magazine as Railway of the Month, December 1979. The article does not name either the owner or location of the layout, such details apparently prohibited by insurers, during the colonel's lifetime.
