Protren was one of many smaller 'artisan' producers in Spain, active after the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), and encouraged by the "Law for the defense and protection of the domestic industry" which hoped to avoid imports by encouraging smaller Spanish companies to take advantage of priority raw material supplies, credit availability and tax concessions. Protren produced wooden models including stations, level crossings and trees.
