Primus Engineering introduced their toy construction sets in 1913, and continued production until approximately 1926. The Primus system was similar in many ways to Meccano, although included wooden parts which bore no relation to any existing Meccano parts. The most interesting model to toy train enthusiasts is the Primus clockwork locomotive, together with wagon, coach and other railway equipment.
Further details and numerous illustrations available at the always excellent and highly recommended NZMeccano site.
