There are various references to early Soviet toy trains made by Press and Serpukhov, from pre Great War to the 1930s. It would appear that Press is the manufacturer, Serpukhov is a town (the location of the Press factory, The Press plant of the People’s Commissariat of Local Industry), the trains were 45mm gauge (Gauge 1) and manufacture was during the the period 1935-40, the factory having closed by 1943. Initial production was for students attending Railway Technical schools, but production was subsequently extended for general retail sale. It is claimed that by the second half of 1935 16,000 locomotives and 60,000 pieces of track had been produced. The name npecc translates as Press.
