Ottenjann oAo oja Oldenburger Blech und Metallwaren Fabrik

(Oldenburg Germany)

Oldenburger Blech und Metallwaren Fabrik was founded shortly after WWII by Ing August Ottenjann in Oldenbung, Germany, close to the Netherlands border. The company is known as Ottenjann, after the founder. The company was created with the support of the city, and is known to have produced 0 gauge trains from 1949 until 1951 or 1955, according to source. The Nordwest Zeitung news article from May 2022 (link below) mentions the production of toy trains and cars until 1955 as Notspielzeug (emergency toys, needed after the war when there was a shortage of toys). Most of these were sold in the Netherlands. The information in the HTS forum however mentions a much shorter production period for the toys: 1949 – 1951.The company itself was active until April 5th 1967 as a tin and metal processing plant, with 40 employees. The article also state that August Ottenjann developed the idea for producing a model train while he was imprisoned in a Russian POW camp.

The train set consists of a brown streamlined steam locomotive, a pair of carriages and track.

The company uses the trade markings oAo, with only the middle letter in upper case, and oja, all in lower case.
