Günthermanns was founder by Siegfried Günthermann in 1877, and produced its first toy car by 1898. The company continued until late 1965 when it was purchased by Siemens. After being widowed, the founder’s wife married the company manager Adolf Weigel, and the initials A.W. appear in the early Gunthermann trademark during the period 1903-1920.
The railway gun illustrated below was offered via eBay in 2015, and described thus :
Made in Germany during the 1920s or 30s, this is an operating toy railway gun by Gunthermann of Nuremberg. Powered by clockwork, the barrel raises and lowers to activate a cap mechanism housed in a small shell that's loaded into the breech. Comes with one original aluminium shell and two brass reproduction ones. The cycle stops after one round of raising and lowering and re-activates via a switch on the side.
