The Gong Bell Manufacturing Company was established in East Hampton in 1866, as manufacturers of toys and bells. Most prpducts were of wood and/or metal, the company ceasing to trade after the 1960s, unable to compete with then new, modern plastic toys. One particuar product, the battery powered fire alarm lamp, at 13 inches tall, was a popular toy train accessory, particularly with the larger scales. The lamp worked and the bell rang, by rotating the knob on the fire box.
