Fleischmann was founded by Jean Fleischmann in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1887 to produce toys including stationary steam engines and, later, toy trains.
Fleischmann absorbed another Nuremberg company, Doll and Co, in 1935, due to the political situation in Germany at that time. Doll and Co were a Jewish owned company. Prior to 1935, Doll and Co had produced their own range of toy trains in 0 gauge, and this was continued by Fleischmann. However, the Fleishmann range of 0 gauge tin trains best known today did not arrive until 1949, and was continued until 1959. Unusually for that time, the Fleischmann 0 gauge range was two rail (not three), and powered by DC (not AC) motors.
Fleischmann continues to this day, having introduced H0 models in 1952 and the Piccolo N scale range in 1969.
An excellent German language site detailing the models manufactured by Doll, Fleischmann and Kibri.
