Bassett-Lowke (The Corgi, Hornby era) 0 Gauge

(Leicester UK)

For a synopsis of the history of Bassett-Lowke, please refer to the Wikipedia web site.

The original Bassett-Lowke company failed in 1965 and after the name had changed hands several times, was purchased by Corgi in 1996, with a range of 0 gauge models being developed by Len Mills, and launched in 1999. The first locomotive was a spirit fired live steam Mogul, but subsequent releases were conventional electric powered. All of the Corgi Bassett-Lowke locos were made in China except the J39 and English Electric Type 1 (Class 20), both of which were manufactured by ETS, as were the various goods wagons. All loco development was by Corgi, although the final two issues, the J39 and Peckett tank were released after Corgi's takeover by Hornby (2008). At the time of the Hornby takeover, Corgi was developing a range of tinplate buildings but that range was cancelled by Hornby who developed and released the resin building range.
