Wooden Accessories

This page will be dedicated to those wonderful wooden accessories available during the inter war years, up to the end of the 1950s, or perhaps early 1960s. Most were made by 'cottage industries' - people working from home, perhaps in their garden shed, such as Hugh Gardner of HUGAR fame. However, some were a more 'professional' production, such as those available from Wardie, the Master Models firm.

I seem to have aquired a reasonable range of wooden accessories over the years, from small lineside huts and buffers to signal boxes, goods sheds, station buildings with platforms and, of course, tunnels. Unfortunately, mine are in storage at present, but will, eventually, be retrieved and photographed. In the meantime, here are a couple to whet your appetite. Neither display any form of maker's name or other identification, but that isn't unusual. Some models are identifiable by label, such as Hailey, Hugar and Woodside, but most are anonymous.

Gamages catalogues of the period seem to advertise a reasonable selection of wooden models, and I'll try to add a few scanned pages, to give an idea of the range available at the time. One problem with these models is knowing the scale for which they were intended - it isn't always obvious, particularly in the case of models made for 3mm (TT) and 4mm (OO) scales.
