TDR, produced by Alan Taylor, initially of Southend on Sea then Exeter, UK, probably from 1976 until 1987. Construction is from photo etched sheet with the rib detail using single side etch. Transfers from Les Horton. PICKFORDS known in Blue or Black. Two chassis types, open and closed.
Note that the Harrods on the open chassis has additional diagonal ribs. We think the open chassis is earlier and later changed to the more common closed type. We think that towards the end of production Alan had some bodies and chassis left over (having to have a minimum quantity made) and decided to do them as Colman's Mustard but this time using transfers as per the original Hornby van rather than custom ones. Les Horton was doing reproduction transfers of Hornby vans at the time. Towards the end Alan ran out of roofs and wheels and was using original Hornby roofs and cast spoked wheels from Mike Corthorn to finish the batch. Mike was supplying a range of reproduction Hornby wheels at the time.
The couplings fitted to TDR vehicles were produced using a very soft metal, best replaced for running purposes. The run numbers (xx/100, 500, 1000 or even 2000) are thought to be more than a little optimistic. The highest numbered vehicle noted to date is 161, a black Pickfords van.
