Albert Schoenhut was a third generation German wooden toy maker who is perhaps best known for wooden pianos, dolls and circus models. His company also made many other wooden toys, including the railroad related items illustrated below. Schoenhut made wood and compostion board stations for Lionel, 1917-1920.
The Schoenhut Company were initially at Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia before moving to larger premises at Sixth and Adams Streets. By 1907 the factory expanded to a five story building at Adams and Sepviva Streets, becoming the largest toy maker in the USA, before the First World War. Schoenhut ceased traing in 1935, and a new company, Skyline Manufacturing Company, was formed by ex Schoenhut employees, to manufacture buildings aimed at model railroaders.
