Marx Early Six Inch Freight Cars
The Marx Early (1934-36) 6 Inch cars were characterised by Joy Line couplers, silver lithographed side frames, car length 5 7/8th inches and a shorter wheelbase, the holes for the axles being closer together, without the 'notch' between the journal boxes which is a feature of later cars. See illustration below, with a later car on the left and early on the right, noting the relative positions of the hole for the axle, together with the notch between the journal boxes on the earlier car. The notch on the earlier car occupies the position of the axle hole on the later car.
