Markie Precision Working Models

(Hampshire, UK)

Markie are precision engineeers, established in 1946, and well known for their range of steam traction and similar live steam models. During the 1980s, Markie produced a replica of the live steam Bowman 234 tender loco, as illustrated below.

Not many replica locos were made, and it perhaps suffers from the solid wheels which are not as attractive as the original Bowman spoked wheels. However, the model has a good reputation for steaming, using a six wick burner below the traditional pot boiler, with drive to the rear wheels only, via two oscillating cylinders.

Markie are believed to have made at least two other locos, a 4-6-0 tender loco, and a smaller 0-4-0 tank loco, in the style of the Bowman 265.
