Bing Mercury

The loco above is an American Flyer Steeple Cab four wheeler, from the mid 1920s, and still runs perfectly. Recently arrived in the UK, via Canada. Yes, it is perfectly capable of shunting (switching) those Hornby Pullmans, even if the scenario is unlikely.

My latest purchase, a rather smart, but well worn American Flyer Steeple Cab loco, which I think I have identified as a number 1218, from the mid 1920s. The colour is correct, but it must have been repainted many years ago, as there are absolutely no traces of the original markings, which would have been American Flyer Lines to the left of the central door, and Motor 1218 to the right. The markings would have been rubber stamped in yellow, to match the window frames, which would also have been yellow.

There is an electric light at one end, but I am assuming that this was originally at the cheaper end of the range, as it lacks brass journals and handrails.

The light works and the motor runs perfectly, and is capable of pulling a substantial train.
