The Hornby Type 101 tank loco was produced from 1947 until 1954, and was a continuation of the pre war M3 series of locos. M3 wheels were generally red for all four loco liveries, whereas post war 101 locos were fitted with green wheels (LNER and SR) or black wheels (GWR and LMS). The post war 101 locos gained a central lamp bracket on the front buffer beam. The Type 101 locomotives were replaced by the Type 40 in British Railways livery, from 1954.
