Hornby Series Locomotives

Hornby Zulu and No 0 Tender Locomotives

The Hornby Zulu and No 0 tender loco was produced from 1922-1941, the No 0 series being a more basic No 1, with non reversing motor, side (not front) boiler hand rails and, except for some late issue models, no weight below cab. The splasher above the loco driving wheels changed from short to long 1929 and, in 1931, the loco body was revised, differences including the steam dome, the chimney and cabside windows. Electric models were available from 1931, both 6v and 20v although the 6v motor was withdrawn 1936, 20v continuing until production ceased, 1941.

The GWR loco illustrated below is particularly interesting, partly due to the surviving paperwork and partly because the dealer stamp is that of Hubert Lansley, better known as the first 'Spanner', Meccano Magazine columnist.
