Hornby Series Engine Sheds

The No 1 and No 2 Engine sheds were introduced in 1928, clockwork track only, although electric track was available by special order. E1E and E2E sheds followed in 1932, with electric track and an internal lamp. Sheds No 1A and 2A were introduced in 1934, being simplified, 1A lacking skylight, ventilators and chimneys, with doors at one end only. No 2A received one skylight only, no ventilators or chimneys but doors at both ends.

Hornby Series Stations

The stations illustrated below are Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 (with E suffix, for those with electric lighting), produced, in various forms, from 1923 until 1957. The buildings (numbers 1 and 2) were of red brick until 1937, and buff thereafter, at which point numbers 1 and 2 became 3 and 4. Platforms were initially grey (until 1929) then yellow-cream to 1933, green to 1937, speckled to 1941 and buff post war. Stations 2 and 4 are most easily recognised by the addtion of chimneys, fences and names which were not fitted to Stations 1 and 3. Only No 4 had a walk through booking hall, numbers 1, 2 and 3 all being printed. Pre war platform edges feature two rows of blocks or bricks, either embossed or printed whereas post war three rows were printed but not embossed.

Hornby Series Signal Cabins

The Hornby Series No 2 Signal Cabin was introduced in 1924, followed by the No 1 Signal Cabin in 1928. Production of the No 2 continued until 1957 although No 1 did not reappear after WWII. The No 2 Cabin is recognised by fitted steps which are a printed detail on the No 1 Cabin. Prior to WWII, No 2 Cabins featured a hinged roof and rear wall, for use with the Hornby Control System. When reintroduced followwing World War II, the roof and rear wall were no longer hinged, although the feet of the cabin retained fixing holes to suit the Lever Frame base.
