Efzet

(Berlin, GDR, East Germany)

Efzet toys were made in Germany, 1880 to 1960s (?), the company seeming to specialise in tinplate toys for doll houses, including washing machines, stoves, ovens and refrigerators.

Very many thanks to a fellow enthusiast for providing the photos and description of the Efzet 0 scale locomotive illustrated and described below :

"The EFZET loco is O gauge and the motor is broken/incomplete, which is the condition it was in when I bought it. There are screw holes on the bottom of the powered set of wheels, the ones with the written notation, which suggests to me they may have been intended for a center rail pickup. I temporarily installed a motor and wheel sets from a Lionel GG1 so I could run it, but I now intend to attempt to repair the original motor and get it running.  I have attached a photo of the loco with the GG1 temporary running gear.

The motor remnants appears to be DC.  All parts are cast/machined aluminum: wheels, shell, motor mounting, red side rails for the wheels, and base plate. I lived in Germany 1997-2001 and asked my German train collector acquaintances  about the EFZET and several said they had seen a shell like mine, but that the loco I had was the most complete they had ever seen. In the 4 years I lived in Germany and the many train shows, auctions,  and markets I attended, I never saw another one."
