C J Chapple

(Exeter, United Kingdom)

The wagon illustrated below was offered for sale with the following description :

Here is a vintage O gauge model of a Southern Railway ex SECR goods van. The model was scratchbuilt by C J Chapple and is signed underneath by him with the place and date Exeter, Dec 1941. It has a wooden body, with excellent detail, and is well painted and lettered. The wagon has full brake gear, sprung buffers and couplings. It runs on steel wheels to coarse scale standards. I have seen references to Mr Chapple in prewar issues of the Model Railway News - he built rolling stock for Maj. Sparkes, a regular contributor to the magazine.
